We presently use the ".txt" extension for our AsciiDoc files. While not wrong, most editors do not associate this extension with AsciiDoc, meaning that contributors don't get automatic editor functionality that could be useful, such as syntax highlighting and prose linting. It is much more common to use the ".adoc" extension for AsciiDoc files, since this helps editors automatically detect files and also allows various forges to provide rich (HTML-like) rendering. Let's do that here, renaming all of the files and updating the includes where relevant. Adjust the various build scripts and makefiles to use the new extension as well. * "git diff --cc" did not honor content mangling specified by

gitattributes and core.autocrlf when reading from the work tree.

* "git diff --check" incorrectly detected new trailing blank lines when

whitespace check was in effect.

* "git for-each-ref" tried to dereference NULL when asked for '%(body)" on

a tag with a single incomplete line as its payload.

* "git format-patch" peeked before the beginning of a string when

"format.headers" variable is empty (a misconfiguration).

* "git help help" did not work correctly.

* "git mailinfo" (hence "git am") was unhappy when MIME multipart message

contained garbage after the finishing boundary.
